Argentine star Lionel Messi said he had thrived after the ‘unique experience’ of being handed the skipper’s armband for Tuesday’s World Cup win over Greece.
‘It was a unique experience - something very special,’ said Messi after coach Diego Maradona handed him the job having rested Javier Mascherano for the 2-0 win. It was a victory which saw the albiceleste make it three wins out of three in Group B and book a meeting with Mexico in the last 16. ‘As soon as I knew about it was just great, unique,’ said Messi, who would not be drawn on whether he might assume similar responsibilities at Barcelona. ‘If that were to happen one day it would be a pleasure,’ he said.
