In the first quarter-final match in the World Cup football 2010, Netherlands won against five time FIFA World Cup winner Brazil by 2-1 on Friday July 2 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Brazil, who had held a 1-0 lead at the half, was the favorite to win the cup, had never lost in 37 World Cup matches (35-0-2) in which they had held a halftime lead.
In the second quarter-final match Uruguay defeated Ghana in a penalty shootout by 1-(4-2) on Friday July 2 at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg. In this match Ghana missed a penalty during the last moment of the game at extra time.
In the third quarter-final match between Germany and Argentina, Germany defeated Argentina by 4-0 at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday July 3. For the German side Thomas Muller and Arne Friedrich scored one each whereas, Miroslav Klose scored 2 goals. Striker Miroslav Klose capped 100th international in this match.
In the last quarter-final of the World Cup football 2010 at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday July 3, World no. 2 football team Spain defeated Paraguay by 1-0. David Villa who put the ball in the back of the net after Pedro struck the ball of the post and scored his 5 goal in 2010 World Cup football, reaching the Semi-Finals for the first time since 1950.
